Keep in mind that the SendMail application will sometimes be blocked by firewall software. Otherwise review the remainder of this section and the next section which will explain most of the common errors or issues with regards to sending test e-Mails.
The bottom section of the Configure SMTP e-Mail Settings window will display the status of the test e-Mail.
Below is an example of an error message which is displayed if the test e-Mail failed.
It must be noted that most e-Mail servers will send an e-Mail to an incorrect or non-existant e-Mail address. It may take up to a day for the e-Mail to reported as not being sent by the e-Mail server.
That is why there is also a To Address value which is required to send a test e-Mail. Also it is recommended that the From Address and To Address not be same. If possible the To Address should not even be with the same domain.
e.g. From Address someone@hotmail.com, To Address someone@gmail.com
The status column contains a message about 'Timing out', or 'Could not connect'.
Check that spelling of the SMTP server value. It is also possible that SendMail application is being blocked by your firewall
The status column contains a message about 'Authentication Required' or 'Invalid username or password'.
This can occur if the username or password is incorrect, check the spelling of the username or renter the password again. Oddly enough some e-Mail servers do require a username or password to send outgoing e-Mail's. These error messages may come up if a username and password is entered. Try sending the test e-Mail without any username and password.
The status column contains a message about 'Encrypted connection' or the acronyms 'TLS' or 'SSL' appear somewhere in the error message.
The e-Mail server may require an encrypted connection, to do this tick This server requires an encrypted connection (TLS/SSL) tick box.
The status column contains a message about 'Secure Password' or the acronym 'SPA' appears somewhere in the error message.
The e-Mail server may require the password to be secure, to do this tick the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
'Port Address'
Most e-Mail servers will use the port number 25, but some require a different port number.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
If you still are having problems and can not send a test e-Mail it is recommended that you talk to an IT professional first. Please do not call e-PayDay support unless you have exhausted all other options. There are many e-Mail clients in use and each of these applications have different configuration screens with different wordings. So it may be very difficult for e-PayDay support to assist you in configuring your settings.
