DEFINITIONS
Retirement
Generally, retirement arises when an employee reaches a certain age (eg. 65 years) or the contracted employment period expires.
Dismissal
The dismissal of an employee will occur when an employer exercises it's right to dismiss an employee. Valid reasons for dismissal may include
- Consistant unsatisfactory performance
- Serious and wilful misconduct
- Neglect of duty
- Gross inefficiency or malingering
Voluntary Resignation
Voluntary resignation occurs when the employee, of their own volition, decides to terminate their employment.
Abandonment
This describes the situation where the employee unexpectedly fails to appear for work one day and then never does return again.
PAYMENTS
Pay Out of Unused Annual Leave
The final outstanding balance of annual leave needs to divided up into the portion that was accrued before 18/08/1993 and the portion accrued after the 17/08/1993. Each will require their own pay rate as per the following
- Pre 18/08/1993 (no loading) Pay Type No. 6 Term. A/L Before 18/8/93 Screen Capture

- Post 17/08/1993 (no loading) Pay Type No. 5 Term. A/L After 17/8/93 Screen Capture
- Post 17/08/1993 (with loading) Pay Type No. 3 Term. A/L + Load Aft 8/93 Screen Capture
If any of the two portions is zero then there is no need to use the corresponding pay rate in the pay envelope.
Pay Out of Unused Long Service Leave
An employee becomes entitled to a pay out of their outstanding long service leave accrual balance only after a certain period of service. Any pay out before that renders the payment as an eligible termination payment (ETP). See Eligible Termination Payments (ETP).
When an employee is entitled to a pay out of long service leave then the outstanding balance must be divided up into 3 portions:
1. That amount accrued before 16/08/1978
2. That amount accrued between 15/08/1978 and 18/08/1993
3. That amount accrued after 17/08/1993
Each will require their own pay rate as per the following
- Pre 16/08/1978 Pay Type No. 13 Term. L/S Before 16/08/78 Screen Capture

- Post 17/08/1993 Pay Type No. 15 Term. L/S After 17/8/93 Screen Capture

Ex Gratia Payment (Golden Handshake)
Ex gratia payments are treated as eligible termination payments (ETP's). See Eligible Termination Payments (ETP).
Payments in Lieu of Notice
Payments in lieu of notice are treated as eligible termination payments (ETP's). See Eligible Termination Payments (ETP).
Pay Out of Unused Sick Leave
Any payments in relation to unused sick leave are treated as eligible termination payments (ETP's). See Eligible Termination Payments (ETP).
Pay Out of Unused Rostered Days Off (RDO's)
Any payments in relation to unused rostered days off (RDO's) are treated as eligible termination payments (ETP's). See Eligible Termination Payments (ETP).
